LG prepares its own AI smartphone at the World Software Congress
Apple has Siri, Google has Google Assistant, Samsung has Bixby ... and LG will soon have a smartphone to call its own. The company is launching a suite of smart devices for image recognition and voice recognition, just in time for the Mobile World Congress to be held at the end of the month.
The first line of this new AI, on which LG claims to be operating for more than a year, will be an upgrade of the LG V30's flagship product launched a year ago. After that, you can expect to see it in all future LG handsets, as well as on some of the older models that were not addressed through the final series.
For starters, the new Artificial Intelligence Platform will offer AI Vision and Voice AI, which focuses on image recognition and sound that are so important to today's smartphones. A vision AI will be enough to know what you are going to take a picture of and then show the camera model that is best suited for taking a picture.
Image recognition algorithms have been trained on over millions of images, explains LG, to be able to see if you are taking a bowl of food or your cat. The same experts will be able to offer you advertising content for the article once you take a photo and to light up the black pictures.
As for Voice AI, this year LG will add nine new unique voice commands to Google Assistant to support all 23 features. The full version includes camera controls ("take a video selfie in a wide corner"), as well as picture and video modes ("slow motion video" or "image search").
While LG pauses to summarize its first dedicated artificial intelligence assistant (which may be a wise choice considering the Google Assistant's advancement on Android), this is the sign of another manufacturer of Phones that optimize advanced intelligence on common sensors of mobile phones, such as face size and built-in RAM.
"As we discussed last month at CES, LG's future lies in AI, not just in automation and acceleration," LG's Ha Jeung-uk said in a press release. "The creation of smartphones will be our goal in the future and we are certain that customers will appreciate the user experience gained with the added V30 that many have asked for and expected."
At its 2017 I / O event, Google achieved a huge splash of artificial intelligence. Since then, we have witnessed the launch of Qualcomm, Huawei and Samsung processor chips specifically designed to accelerate the functions of artificial intelligence, such as image processing, by hand. Prepare your phone for maximum recovery on time
